Choosing Casing and Column Pipes for a Borewell

A borewell needs two kinds of pipe: casing pipes that line and support the well, and column pipes that carry water up from the submersible pump. Vinyl Pipes manufactures both in uPVC, so the complete water well system comes from one supplier.

uPVC casing pipes: Deep Well and Medium Well

Vinyl uPVC casing pipes are made from unplasticized polyvinyl chloride with a yield stress of 55 N/mm², which gives them the stiffness to resist deformation under underground pressure. They come in two variants:

  • Deep Well Casing Pipes: engineered for greater depths and can be lowered up to 600 metres.
  • Medium Well Casing Pipes: balance strength and flexibility for moderate-depth borewells.
  • Chemical resistance across a pH range of 2 to 12, and smooth internal surfaces that improve flow and resist bacterial growth.
  • Screen pipes with precision-engineered slots are also available to filter sediments and keep water clear.

uPVC column pipes with Power Lock Technology

Vinyl uPVC column pipes (also called drop or riser pipes) connect the submersible pump to the surface. Each pipe uses a compound of 92% PVC polymer, 3% reinforcing agents and 3% titanium, made with biaxially oriented extrusion.

  • Power Lock Technology gives a leak-proof joint that prevents slippage from motor vibration and jerk.
  • Suitable for installation depths of up to 1400 ft.
  • Sizes from 20 mm to 315 mm, in 3 m and 6 m lengths, with temperature resistance up to 60°C.
  • 60% more cost-effective than iron or steel pipes at one-sixth of the weight, with a smooth bore that uses 23% less energy.
  • Life expectancy of over 50 years, with 100% corrosion resistance for clean, potable water.
